  2. Point the scanner at a bird in the environment
  3. Use the zoom slider on the left to get closer
  4. Wait for the Focus indicator to identify the bird species
  5. Once identified, tap the Capture button to take the photo!

Scanner Controls Explained

πŸ”Ž Zoom Slider

The progress bar on the left zooms in/out. Perfect for distant birds!

🎯 Focus Indicator

Shows when the bird is identified. If not identified, your level may be too low!

⚠️ Important Tips

  • Keep your distance! Birds get nervous if you're too close and will fly away
  • Use the zoom function instead of approaching physically
  • If the focus doesn't identify a bird, your hobby level is too low - level up first!
  • Capture birds doing special actions (like eating) for higher star ratings!
Advanced

⭐ Star Ratings & Special Actions

Not all bird photos are equal! Here's how to capture high-value shots.

Understanding Star Ratings

Bird cards come in different star ratings based on the action you capture:

⭐ 1-Star Card

Basic photo, bird in resting pose. Most common at low levels.

⭐⭐ 2-Star Card

Captured during movement or interaction. Worth more gold!

⭐⭐⭐ 3-Star Card

Rare special action captured. Highest value!

Special Actions to Look For

  • Foraging/Eating: Catch birds while they're eating for bonus star rating!
  • Flying: Capture mid-flight for dynamic shots
  • Singing: Some birds sing at certain times - valuable captures!
  • Interacting: Birds near other birds or objects

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip

At low hobby levels, getting 2-star cards is very difficult. Focus on leveling up first - higher levels make special actions easier to capture!

Level Up Benefits

  • Unlock more bird species to identify and photograph
  • Increased scanner durability - take more photos before repairs
  • Better scanner performance - easier to capture special actions
  • Higher value cards - your photos sell for more gold!

Level 2 Unlock: Recycling

At Birdwatching Level 2, you unlock the Recycling feature:

  • Talk to Beli to access recycling
  • Submit 5 bird cards to exchange for materials and bird food
  • Great for disposing of duplicate low-star cards!
Money

πŸ’° Selling Bird Photos for Gold

Turn your bird photography skills into profit!

Option 1: Sell to the Rich Kid

  • Find the "Rich Kid" NPC (wealthy collector) on the map
  • Talk to them and select bird cards to sell
  • Higher star ratings = higher prices
  • Best for valuable 2-star and 3-star cards!

Option 2: Exchange with Beli

  • Talk to Beli and choose the exchange option
  • Trade 5 cards for crafting materials and bird food
  • Recommended for Robin and Pigeon cards (low sell value)

⚠️ Keep Some Cards!

Always keep a few cards of each bird type! Daily quests sometimes require submitting specific bird photos.

🏠 Bird Perches & Attracting Birds

Bring birds to your home for convenient photography!

How Bird Perches Work

  1. Visit Beli's shop to purchase bird perches (furniture)
  2. Place perches in your home garden
  3. Add bird food to the perch
  4. Wait for birds to visit your home!

Note: Bird perches are expensive! Save up gold before purchasing. However, they provide a convenient way to photograph birds without traveling around the map.

🎯 Birdwatching vs Other Money Methods

Honest advice for beginners about birdwatching as income.

πŸ“Š Early Game Reality Check

At low levels, birdwatching is not the best way to earn gold. Here's why:

  • Low levels = mostly 1-star cards (low value)
  • Robin and Pigeon photos don't sell for much
  • Scanner durability is limited

Better Early Game Options

  • Gardening + Cooking: Higher and more consistent profits
  • Bug Catching: Bugs actually sell for more than bird cards at early levels!
  • Check our Money Guide for detailed strategies

When Birdwatching Becomes Profitable

  • At higher hobby levels, you unlock rarer birds worth much more
  • Improved scanner makes capturing special actions easier
  • Visiting friends' towns can help you find different bird spawns
