The Ultimate Guide to Pets in Heartopia: Adoption, Care & Breeds

📅 Jan 29, 2026 ⏱️ 5 min read

It is finally here! Pet Day has arrived in Heartopia.

If you have reached DG Level 12, you are now eligible to become a pet parent. But Miss Joan at the Adoption Center won't just let anyone walk away with a furry friend. You need to prove you are ready.

In this guide, we will walk you through unlocking the feature, completing the prerequisite quests, and mastering pet care to build the ultimate bond with your new companion.

📋 Requirements to Unlock Pets

Before you run to the Adoption Center, ensure you have ticked these boxes:

If the option is still locked, you might need to finish Princess Stella's Adventure.

🧩 Quest Help: Princess Stella's Adventure

You need to talk to three specific townspeople to complete this prerequisite:

  1. Annie: Found by the fountain.
  2. Atara: Standing in front of the Town Hall.
  3. Bob: Inside the Furniture Shop (this one is tricky!).

Tip:

When reporting back to Miss Joan, select their thoughts in this order: Atara → Bob → Annie.

🐱 Adopting Your First Pet

Once you have your Hobby Expansion Ticket, you can unlock Cat Caring first.

Choosing a Personality

Don't just pick the first cute face you see! Click on different kittens to check their Personality Traits.

Choose a personality that matches your playstyle. Once you decide, pay the 500 Gold adoption fee and give them a name you will be proud of!

After adoption, a new Pet Tab appears on your Smartwatch. Use this to:

🐶 Unlocking Dogs

Dog adoption works exactly the same way. Hand over another Hobby Expansion Ticket, watch the tutorial, and choose your pup.

Recommendation:

Look for traits like Clingy or Sociable if you want an easier time with training. "Energetic Chatterbox" might be a handful!

❤️ Building the Bond: Emotes & Feeding

The coolest feature? Pets react to your Emotes!

Feeding Tips

You can feed them generic Pet Food or, interestingly, Fish you have caught!

🎾 Training & Mini-Games

You aren't just a feeder; you are a trainer. Unlocking new tricks requires playing mini-games.

The "Play" Mini-Game

This is a reaction game. Watch for the icon above your pet's head and click the matching button on screen:

Speed matters! The faster you react, the more points you get.

Dog Specifics: Treasure Hunt

Dogs have unique training like "Seek Treasure." If their action matches the training goal, confirm it to earn points. Note that training consumes your pet's Energy, so let them rest between sessions.

🏆 Rewards & Breeds

Why be a good pet parent?

  1. XP Boosts: Happy pets give you passive bonuses.
  2. Gifts: At higher levels, pets bring you gifts (like 2,000 Gold!).
  3. Travel Buddy: If you ride a bike, they will hop in the basket or seat!

Breed Variety

There are 10 Dog Breeds (Shiba Inu, Corgi, Poodle, Golden Retriever, etc.) and over 15 Cat Breeds (including Panda Cat and Raccoon Cat!). The colorways are vast, affecting eye color, coat patterns, and even eyebrow spots.
